Nunhead Cemetery

Situated in South London, the cemetery was consecrated in 1840 and used until the middle of the 20th century when it was nearly full and then abandoned. It was left to ruin but in the early 1980s the «Friends of Nunhead Cemetery» were formed to renovate and protect the cemetery. It was reopened in May 2001 and is now a local nature reserve. Many memorials were restored while parts of the cemetery are left to nature’s devices.
